Northern Boys Championships ( aka The Little Six) - Previous winners

The results recorded below show how the larger counties have dominated this event. Yorkshire have won it 11 times, Lancashire 6 times, Cheshire 4 times and Northumberland just once. It is possible that these figures could be changed slightly as I have not yet been able to turn up the results for 1988 and for 1984 to 1986. I will investigate further and try to complete the table.

Cumbria's team of Dan Park, Oliver Carr, Chris Thursby, Kieran Waters, Carl Johnstone and Sebastian Crookall-Nixon have won the Little 6 at Furness Golf Club on July the 14th. This is Cumbria's first win in this prestigious competition and comes one year after Cumbria' men won the Big 6 at Seascale Golf Club. It is fitting too that this fine win comes in the Cumbria Union of Golf Club's centenary year. It was a team effort and all the boys contributed to the victory which was extremely close and was only decided on the final green as the penultimate pair arrived there with Cumbria needing only a par to win. Sebastian Crookall-Nixon held his nerve and duly delivered the par to loud applause from the watching gallery. The icing on the cake was the individual trophy going to Chris Thursby for the lowest 36-hole gross aggregate of 137 which included a 6 under par round of 65 in the afternoon session.

Please note that up to and including the year 2000 the totals were calculated from the 4 best scores from 6. From 2001 the totals were calculated from the 5 best scores from 6 and will remain so for the 2010 event.
